The object of this two-semester lecture course is the introduction in the history and theory of architecture from the beginning of the 19th century up to today. It will examine the different architectural concepts dealing with new technical inventions and constantly changing social practices. The focus will thus be less on individual architects or single buildings than on various themes that defined the architecture of the time such as „Reform“, „Objectivity”, „Modernity“, „Habitat“ or „Deconstruction“. The objective of the lecture course is to use these themes to analyse paradigmatically the relationship between architectural and discursive practices.
