“buzzi e buzzi. 4 × 2” presents a selection of work by buzzi e buzzi architetti of Ticino. Francesco Buzzi and Britta Buzzi-Huppert studied architecture at ETH Zurich and founded their own firm in Locarno in 1995. Their approach focuses on a project’s cultural context, the topography of its site, and its structural and material texture. Every one of their constructions is a response to a specific place, and to its specific character. Their designs are not determined by a premeditated outcome or familiar form, but by an idea derived from location and further ripened in dialogue with the landscape. The result is a wide variety of buildings, all with the same conceptual parentage.
The exhibition shows four private and four public projects created between 1995 and 2010, including the Ca’ Janus and Paesaggio cubico 2 homes, in Ponto Valentino and Tegna, respectively, as well as the Residenza Swisslife, a multiple-family dwelling in Locarno.
The show is accompanied by a publication, Ca’ Janus, available from buzzi e buzzi architetti, which documents the construction of that name with essays, photographs and plans.
