How were corporate identities and philosophies, marketing strategies and brands expressed as architecture in 2010? The exhibition at ETH Zurich addresses a question posed midway between the disciplines of marketing and architecture with a show of work nominated for the
“Award for Marketing + Architecture” – including the winning submissions – that displays the variety of potential approaches available to representative building.
The second Award was granted in April of 2010, and the increase in the number of submissions for last year’s prize makes plain the growing importance of architecture for the transmission of corporate identity, as the three-dimensional transfer of image and identity by way of built structures has become a key topic for architects, clients and communications experts alike.
The interdisciplinary jury for the 2010 edition awarded prizes to winners in six categories and handed out two special awards. The main prize, along with the special award for “Green Technology”, was granted to the Scuol Youth Hostel, a monolith built especially for its site which
radiates the solidity of an old-fashioned Engadine house even as it conveys client philosophy.
The exhibition demonstrates the means available – including subtle interventions – for the creation of top-flight corporate architecture and portrays a range of solutions to problems of material, form and effect.
