The Swiss Steel Construction Centre is awarding the «Prix Acier» for the third time in 2009. The Swiss Steel Construction Prize is awarded every two years for buildings exemplifying the architectural quality and technological potential of steel construction. The aim of the Prize is to promote competence in steel construction, with an emphasis on creative and economic ways of using steel as a material, and on technological innovation and virtuosity in construction.
A total of 44 buildings were submitted for consideration for the «Prix Acier 2009». The specialist jury awarded prizes to five projects: the new glass canopy over the railway station square in Berne, the Leutschenbach school complex in Zurich, the Merck Serono Headquarters in Geneva, the IMD Maersk McKinney Centre in Lausanne, and the bridge over the Verzasca River between Tenero-Contra and Gordola in Ticino. The prizes are awarded to the teams of developers, architects, engineers and steel constructors. In addition to these five awards, seven other projects also received special recognition. The award ceremony is to be held on 30 September 2009 at the ETH Zurich, Hönggerberg.
The «Prix Acier 2009» touring exhibition, presenting all of the winning projects, will also be officially opened at the award ceremony. The projects are also being reviewed in the current issues of the journal steeldoc, available from the Swiss Steel Construction Centre.
