The Common Grounds of Housing

Organizer: Institute gta, gta Archives
Date: Tuesday, 5 April 2022 to Tuesday, 5 April 2022
Time: 18.15 to 20.00
Location: ETH Hönggerberg HIL E3

The lecture addresses the notion of ‘common grounds’ in housing from two perspectives. Firstly, it refers to housing as urban configuration, in which the space between buildings is charged by frictions between graded privacies and the public domain. Secondly, it proposes a narrative of origins, relating the notion of housing to the industrial growth of the nineteenth-century city, and indicating common themes that continue across places and times until today.
