Andreas Kalpakci
Curriculum vitae

Andreas Kalpakci (Mendrisio, 1984) is an architectural historian working on the relations between architectural modernism and the field of international organizations. For his dissertation "Making CIAM: The Organizational Techniques of the Moderns, 1928-1959," he conducted an institutional analysis of CIAM through extensive archival research, leading to a new perspective on the role that this association played in the institutionalization of modernism. Previously a Fulbright grantee, he completed his SNF-funded dissertation in 2017 with distinction (ETH Medal), and he is currently editing it into a forthcoming book (gta Verlag). Architectural ethnography has been the main focus of his teaching, research, and curatorial work at the Chair of the Theory of Architecture. He edited ARCH+ 238 with Momoyo Kaijima and Laurent Stalder (2020), and he was assistant curator of the Japan Pavilion at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale (2018). At the moment he is researching the architectural, cultural, and technological histories of clocks, light bulbs, and gas meters in view of a new course.
