Curriculum Vitae
Berthold Hub (b.1972) teaches history of ancient and medieval architecture, as well as other seminars on early-modern architectural history and theory at the Chair of the History and Theory of Architecture, Prof. Dr. Maarten Delbeke.
Berthold studied theology, philosophy and art history in Vienna, Madrid and Tübingen. He received his PhD in the field of philosophy (aesthetics and epistemology) in 2006 with the thesis “Die Perspektive der Antike: Archäologie einer symbolischen Form”, published in 2008. In 2006 he was fellow at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institute; from 2006 to 2009 assistant in the chair of Prof. Werner Oechslin at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture (gta) of ETH Zurich; and from 2009 to 2013 assistant at the chair of Prof. Sebastian Schütze at the Institute for Art History at the University of Vienna. In 2014 and 2015 Berthold was Erwin Schrödinger Fellow of the Austrian Science Fund at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz. The next two years he was visiting professor at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg i. Br. (substituting Prof. Hans Hubert), before returning to the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz as a senior research scholar in Alessandro Nova’s department, collaborating in the project “Ethicsand Architecture”. In 2017 and 2018 he was visiting professor at Prof. Tristan Weddigen’s Chair of Early Modern Art History of the University of Zurich; 2018 and 2019 visiting professor at the Department of Art History of the University of Vienna. Since autumn 2017 he is senior assistant at the Chair of the History and Theory of Architecture at ETH Zurich.
Berthold recieved his habilitation at the University of Vienna with the thesis “Filarete: Der Architektur der Renaissance als Demiurg und Pädagoge” (Vienna: Böhlau 2019, in press). In August 2018 he received the Venia Legendi also from the ETH Zurich.
